HOw does arthritis affect the Skeletal system?
Arthritis is a diesease which affects big and small joints. Common joints affected are your wrist, knees, and fingers. The skeletal system is affected in many different ways by arthritis. Each effect arthritis causes, causes something else to be painful or damaged. The cartilage is damanged very easily which allows bones to rub together in an uncomfortable manner. With enough friction from this, the bones can be damaged and worn down. This friction causes swelling in the bones, which causes "bone spurs". Bone spurs are also known as bony growths.
The two different types of arthritis are affect in different ways. With Osteoarthritis, the damage is usually from continuous, abnormal movements which wear down your joints and cartilage. Most of the time, your body will try to make more, causing more damage to the joints and bones. Rhuematoid Arthritis causes inflamattion in the joints. This causes a lack in movement in joints. This stiffness leads to pain when bending over, sitting down, trying to grab, something, etc. Pain can even be felt when no movement is occurring.
